MK Dons have appointed Russell Martin as their new first-team manager, which has drawn a frustrated response from many fans of the club.
Paul Tisdale was sacked by the club on Saturday evening after his side lost 3-1 to Tranmere Rovers, a result that saw them slide down into the relegation zone.
The Dons have now gone nine games without a win in League One–scoring just twice in that run.
Is Russell Martin the right man for the job at MK Dons?
Martin has been appointed as Tisdale’s replacement with immediate effect and will take charge of his first match next Saturday when his side face Port Vale at Stadium MK in the first round of the FA Cup.
Speaking to the club website, he said: “I’m excited and proud to have been given this opportunity to become manager of MK Dons. Football management is something that I’ve been preparing for, for a long time and this is an opportunity I’m ready to take on.”
The 33-year-old joined the Dons as a player last January and played a key role in the second half of the 2018/19 campaign, helping them to get promoted from League Two.
The centre-back was an integral figure once again at the start of the season, making 15 appearances, but had fallen out of favour in recent weeks.
The MK Dons job is Martin’s first in management and he is currently completing his UEFA Pro Licence and League Managers’ Association Diploma in Football Management.
The appointment appears to have frustrated large parts of the Stadium MK faithful, with many fans taking to Twitter to express their anger.

Time to go Pete! Sorry but really don’t want to hear “but he knows the club” like that stands for anything really

Micciche all over again. Why not get a caretaker in, recruit someone in the New Year and dip into the January window? Hello League 2….
