Many Sunderland supporters have been bemoaning the recent performances of Denver Hume, following the Black Cats’ 2-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night.

Phil Parkinson’s side headed into the game looking to get back to winning ways having picked up just two draws and a defeat in their last three matches, which saw them lose the momentum they had been building up since the turn of the year.

However, Sunderland were unable to re-find their best form at both ends of the pitch at Bristol Rovers, falling to a second successive defeat on their travels, which leaves the Black Cats out of the League One play-off places on goal difference heading into the weekend.

QUIZ: Do you know what year these 14 Sunderland players joined the club?

There were many Sunderland players who struggled to produce their best form at Bristol Rovers, but Hume’s performance in particular at times down the left-hand side was cause for concern for Parkinson’s side, with the defender struggling to do enough to prevent the hosts from creating chances.

The 21-year-old’s positioning at times caused Sunderland some issues down the left, with other players often having to fill in down the left-and side to try and provide some extra protection when he had been caught out of position on the transition.

Hume also found it difficult to really make a difference going forwards as well down the left-hand side, with Bristol Rovers controlling any attempts he made to get forwards, meaning he failed to really influence the game in an attacking sense.

Here then, we take a look at what Sunderland fans made of the defender’s performance on social media…
