‘Pathetic’, ‘Massive excuse’ – Many Bristol City fans react to Lee Johnson’s claim about Leeds United clash

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has claimed that injury and illness forced him to make late changes to his side ahead of the defeat to Leeds United last weekend, which has drawn a mixed reaction from fans of the South West club.

The Robins were outclassed by Leeds on Saturday as Marcelo Bielsa’s side looked back to their best.

City only lost 1-0 but never really seemed to be in the game and were kept very quiet by the Whites all afternoon.

Johnson made a string of changes for the game, with Tomas Kalas, Han-Noah Massengo, and Andreas Weimann coming back into the side.

However, the City boss told the Bristol Post earlier this week that he was forced into those changes due to illness and injury.

Johnson revealed that Filip Benkovic, Korey Smith and Famara Diedhiou were originally in his plans for the trip to Elland Road, so it will be interesting to see if they return against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

City are seventh in the Championship and could climb back into the top six with a win against the Baggies.

Who scored the first goal of the season for the Robins?

Johnson’s claim has caused much debate amongst Robins supporters, with some fans suggesting he should be given some slack and others frustrated by his “excuses”.
