Leeds saw their promotion hopes suffer another blow this afternoon as they fell to an unexpected 1-0 defeat against relegation strugglers Wigan Athletic at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa's side failed to capitalise on their first-half dominance as winger Jack Harrison and striker Patrick Bamford both squandered good opportunities, and it was a Pablo Hernandez own goal which gave the Latics the lead in the 60th minute.

The result means Leeds have now lost their spot at the top of the Championship table following West Brom's win over Luton, with the Elland Road outfit having now lost three of their last four second-tier clashes over the last couple of weeks.

The Whites strengthened their squad during the January transfer window with Jean-Kevin Augustin being the marquee signing of the month, but he was not included in the match-day squad against Wigan as Bamford continued in attack for Bielsa's side.

Bamford entered the match after scoring a brace during Leeds' 3-2 victory over Millwall in midweek, but he failed to replicate this performance against Wigan as he missed a number of opportunities before and after the visitors took the lead.
