Former Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has told Football Insider that he believes the club could find the new Phil Jagielka, Kyle Walker or Harry Maguire with Slavisa Jokanovic in charge.

These comments from the former shot stopper come in wake of a report by The Star which claims that the Serbian boss compiled a detailed file about the club's finest young prospects before taking on the job back in May.

The Blades are well known for having one of the best academy systems in the country, with the likes of Femi Seriki, Daniel Jebbison and Iliman Ndiay all being handed their first team debuts last season.

Now, Kenny has claimed that the Steel City club could soon unearth their next golden generation as he made the following comments:

"Sheffield United over the years have been known for getting a lot of young players through the youth system. You’ve got Phil Jagielka, Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire.

"It seems like a positive move from the manager that he’s putting these files together and having a look at the young lads. They might get a chance at some point and add to that list of players."

The three players mentioned by Kenny have all gone on to bigger and better things, with Walker and Maguire currently performing well for England at Euro 2020.

Meanwhile Jagielka has left the club after taking in a second spell back at Bramall Lane and it is yet unclear as to whether he will hang up his boots or not as he weighs up his options at present.

The Verdict

Kenny is quite right to rave about the young prospects coming through for the Blades, with those three youngsters potentially holding the key to success.

I for one am really looking forward to seeing more of Jebbison in action as he really impressed in the handful of games that he was granted towards the back end of the last campaign.

He has all the attributes to become a regular goal scorer at Sky Bet Championship level and will no doubt be a threat moving forwards.

As for the other youngsters that the club has at it's disposal, they can all progress with confidence over the fact that Jokanovic won't be afraid to hand them a chance if they show that they can make the cut.
