What a turbulent season it has been for Sheffield Wednesday so far, but with much-maligned manager Jos Luhukay finally departing, there is a sense that this campaign could still be a successful one.

Steve Bruce will take over managerial duties at Hillsborough at the end of the month after being ousted from Aston Villa earlier in the season and he will be keen to bring in some fresh faces in the January transfer window.

The Owls' season is currently teetering on a knife-edge somewhat with disaster and glory still both very feasible.

They sit in 16th place after 26 games, just ten points ahead of Bolton Wanderers who currently occupy the final spot in the relegation zone but also just 11 behind Derby County who sit in the play-offs.

A tremendous run of form would no doubt be needed for Bruce to take the Owls into the play-offs but stranger things have happened in the Championship.

His immediate thoughts will be on the transfer window, however, and here are THREE realistic players they could bring in...

Liam Palmer remains the Owls only current out and out right-back so it is definitely a position they need to address.

They could look across to their Yorkshire rivals Barnsley and Dimitri Cavare as a solution.

With the attacking full-back's contract set to expire in June a deal could well be done.

Another League One name who could solve their right-back woes is Portsmouth's Nathan Thompson.

Although Pompey are very well placed to win promotion, Thompson could be tempted by immediate second-tier action and with his contract set to expire in the summer, Portsmouth could be tempted to cash in as well.

Wednesday have plenty of prowess as far as creative talent is concerned but some more depth can never be a bad thing.

Maddison is a versatile attacker, capable of playing on either wing or behind the striker with a consistently brilliant delivery that has seen him hit at least 20 assists in his last two seasons.
