Leeds United midfielder Pablo Hernandez insisted the players supported Marcelo Bielsa's decision to give Aston Villa a goal in the highly-charged 1-1 draw on Sunday.

After the Whites scored whilst Jonathan Kodjia lay injured, Leeds boss Bielsa told his players to let them equalise unopposed from the kick-off.

That angered centre-back Pontus Jansson, who tried to stop Albert Adomah as he went through.

And, Hernandez, who was called over by the manager after the incident, told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope that he was never going to go against his coach.

"Marcelo called me and also the captain, who told us that he thought that what we had to do was let them score to equalise the game.

"We all looked at each other and decided that if it was the coach’s instructions, it was the right thing to do. We accept your orders."

The draw mathematically ended Leeds' automatic promotion hopes and sealed a return for their rivals Sheffield United, meaning they have to settle for the play-offs.

As it stands, they will face Derby County and Bielsa's men need a point on the final day this weekend to secure third place.

The Verdict

This shows how professional Hernandez is and that he wouldn't think to go against Bielsa, highlighting the respect he has for the manager.

Even if Leeds fans disagree with Bielsa's call, he is the manager and the players should follow his orders.

The focus will now switch to the play-offs, with Leeds still in with a great chance of securing promotion this season.
