Oxford United are weighing up a move for Luton Town striker Danny Hylton, as revealed by HITC Sport.

The prolific 29-year-old helped the Hatters to promotion last season with 21 league goals, taking his total to 42 in two seasons in the fourth tier.

He's struggled with injuries this season and has bagged just five in 19 outings, with James Collins and Elliot Lee taking up the scoring responsibilities.

He's only started 10 of their matches this season and has been left out of the squad completely for the last three games as caretaker manager Mick Harford makes his mark.

That's alerted clubs to his possible availability, with Oxford keen on adding him to their ranks.

He left Oxford to join the Hatters in 2016, having scored 30 times in 101 appearances and helping them to promotion from League Two. He's also had spells with Aldershot Town, where he scored 53 times in 226 outings, Rotherham United, Bury and Wimbeldon.

He's been named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year twice in as many seasons and in 2016/17 won Luton Town's Player of the Year award too.

The Verdict

I always wondered if maybe the top of League One was a step too far for Hylton and so it has proved.

He's fallen down the pecking order this season as the Hatters have kicked on, but he's too good for the top of League Two right now.

He's a goal scorer, a bullish and aggressive centre forward the likes of which don't come around all that often. There's bound to be a clamour for his services one way or another.
