Oxford United forward Cameron Brannagan had a harsh message for on-loan Liverpool star Ben Woodburn last night, as reported by Wales Online.

The 19-year-old is with Oxford on a season-long loan spell and he played a role last night as they beat Peterborough 1-0, a repeat of the League One result the two shared at the weekend.

Brannagan was once again the hero, scoring the only goal of the game for the second time in four days, but Woodburn missed a glaring chance to give the scoreline some gloss.

He fired over from close range after James Henry had rattled the bar for the U's, something Brannagan told the youngster is not acceptable.

"I told him ‘this is serious, those chances have got to go in the net’," he said.

"Ben knows that. You’ll miss chances of course and he was gutted. I just said ‘the next one you’ve got to put away’. Ben’s living with me now so I’m looking after him and he’s a top kid."

Woodburn is Liverpool's youngest ever goalscorer, a feat he achieved by bagging in an EFL Cup match against Leeds. After a dismal loan spell with Sheffield United, he is looking to rebuild his reputation at the Kassam.

The Verdict

This is serious for Ben Woodburn; a failure to live up to his promise this season will leave him in a very tough position.

That early excitement after his goal for Liverpool has died down and if he wants to stay in the top flight he needs to severely impress at Oxford.

It's only a game or two into his spell there though, so there isn't any serious worry just yet about his form. However, an early goal might have settled his nerves a little as he looks to make a name for himself.
