Jordan Rhodes made it two goals in two games as Sheffield Wednesday beat Aston Villa last time out and Owls legend John Sheridan has called on the striker to be given an extended run in the team now.
Since signing for around £10m from Middlesbrough, things haven’t gone well for Rhodes. He struggled for goals last season and had found himself used mainly as a substitute this time around.
However, he was given a chance against Millwall, where he scored the winner and did the same a few days later as Wednesday recorded rare back-to-back wins. Now, Sheridan wants to see Rhodes keep starting games, as he believes the goals will follow.
“I think he’s just got to get a run in the team and he’ll get more goals. He’s a bit of a Gary Lineker type fox in the box. Give him opportunities, he’ll score goals and hopefully he’ll start doing it,” he told Sheffield Live TV.
“He’s all about being in the box. I don’t think he’ll mind me saying, he’s not the quickest but if he gets chances in the 18 yard box there’s no one better in the division.”
Jordan Rhodes will certainly appreciate the support from a Wednesday legend as he’s endured a tough time at Hillsborough.
Yet, he can still turn it around and his goals in recent weeks will boost his confidence significantly.
It’s still early days, but Sheridan is right about Rhodes’ ability to finish in the box and if he gets the chances and is playing with belief, he can still turn out to be the striker that Carlos Carvalhal had hoped he’d signed.
