Derby County ran Premier League giants Chelsea so close last night, but in the end were beaten by the odd goal in five.

Four of the night's efforts were scored by Derby players, two at the wrong end and two at the right one. Strikers Jack Marriott and Martyn Waghorn were amongst those goals, with the latter scoring his first in nine matches.

It was a solid performance from the former Ipswich man who hasn't set Pride Park on fire since his big money move, but he was delighted with both the fans reaction too the game and his teams application.

He took to Twitter to express his delight after the game.

That inevitably drew Derby fans from their sorrow at losing the game to applaud the performance of Waghorn and his team mates.

Some noted he was getting better with every game and looked to be growing as a player, others wanted to congratulate him on his goal and on the team's performance.

There's no points won or lost for a cup exit, but there's plenty for Rams' fans to be happy about this morning.
