Preston North End sent out a real statement to the rest of the Championship as they thrashed Barnsley 5-1 at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon.

One player that stood out in the win over the Tykes was Daniel Johnson, who scored a brace, as well as being on hand to provide an assist for Tom Barkhuizen's goal.

Football League World's Preston North End fan pundit Charlie Winyard has issued high-praise for Johnson, who has been a key player for the Lilywhites so far this term.

"He moved back into his natural position of the number ten role sat behind the striker, which has been the most effective for us this season and I cannot fault his performance. He was outstanding!

Winyard was also impressed with David Nugent, with the fan pundit admitting that the experienced forward played his part in creating chances for Johnson in the emphatic win.

"Although we don’t need to build a team around anyone though in truth. We’re not a team full of individuals as they all work together for the greater cause. Nugent with his first start for us as well!

"He made it easier for Johnson to do his job with his experience. He was moving around pulling defenders away, making runs and nearly got his goal.

The regular punter is refusing to get ahead of himself though, with Preston currently occupying one of the play-off places after 11 games in the Championship and labelled the division as the most unpredictable in the world.

"I’m not getting carried away, couple of defeats and we’ll find ourselves 12th - it’s that tight up there. It’s the Championship at the end of the day and in my eyes it's the most unpredictable league in the world, so it could quite easily go out and get done by Reading 5-1.

"We’ve just got to take each game as it comes!"
