Sunderland have confirmed that Elliot Embleton has signed a two-year contract with the club as he looks to force himself into Jack Ross' plans.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at League Two Grimsby and he impressed throughout.

That has prompted the Black Cats to secure the England youth international on a longer deal and they confirmed the news on their official site yesterday evening. It will extend his stay on Wearside, with the midfielder having been at the club since he was six.

Despite that, Embleton hasn't managed to get many opportunities in the first-team since his debut in 2017 but he will hope for more chances now.

That's certainly what the fans want and they were extremely pleased that the academy graduate had committed his future to Sunderland and they want to see him involved for the promotion push next season.
