Aston Villa are aiming to end their Sky Bet Championship nightmare this season, with Steve Bruce aiming to guide his side into contention to compete for a Premier League return later in the 2017/18 campaign.

Villa currently sit seventh in the Championship table, and the January transfer window could be key to helping Bruce’s side work their way into serious contention for a Premier League return.

Here at FLW, we look ahead to the start of 2018 and the dream XI Villa could be lining up with in the New Year, after one key addition during the January transfer window.

The player we believe Villa should be looking to sign is Joe Ledley, who is currently on a short-term deal with Derby County. Bruce moving to secure the 30-year-old on a deal would be an impressive move, with the Welshman having the potential to completely sure up Villa’s midfield and form an excellent partnership with Mile Jedinak.

Sam Johnstone would continue in goal in our starting XI, with Ahmed Elmohamady, James Chester, John Terry and Neil Taylor ahead of him. Jedinak and Ledley would be our midfield partnership, with the duo having the ability to be a defensive shield and dictate the game from deep.

The potential partnership of Jedinak and Ledley would allow Jack Grealish to roam in the number 10 role, whilst Albert Adomah and Robert Snodgrass will continue to support the attack from out wide. This XI will create plenty of opportunities for Jonathan Kodjia, who is the focal point of our attack.
