‘Outstanding’, ‘Immense’ – Many Sunderland fans rave about one player despite injury worry

Sunderland put five past Cheltenham Town last night as they reclaimed top spot in League One and the performance of Nathan Broadhead has had many Black Cats fans talking.

The 23-year-old Everton loanee opened his account for the North East club last week in the EFL Cup win against Wigan Athletic and was handed his first league start by Lee Johnson on Tuesday night.

Broadhead did not disappoint on an evening that saw Sunderland produce arguably their best display of 2021/22 so far, putting five past Cheltenham.

Bailey Wright nodded in the opener from a corner and a Ross Stewart brace had the Black Cats three up by the break.

They showed no signs of slowing down either as Luke O’Nien and substitute Leon Dajaku found the net in the second half to ensure Johnson’s side moved top of the table in style.

Broadhead started on the left of the attacking midfield three in a 4-2-3-1 and his movement proved a real nuisance for the Cheltenham defence, creating space for his teammates time and time again, while he was involved in many of the goalscoring moves.

The 23-year-old did everything but score a goal himself and though he was forced off with a knock late on, with Lee Johnson unsure of how bad the injury was after the game, he seems to have made himself popular among the Sunderland support.

Have Sunderland ever been involved in any of these 18 scenarios?
