Barnsley once again find themselves back in the Championship after winning promotion from League One at the first time of asking.

The Tykes seriously impressed last season under Daniel Stendel, finishing second only to Luton Town, and will go into the new campaign with plenty of confidence.

However, it has been a summer of change for the club as well with first-choice players Liam Lindsay, Ethan Pinnock and Adam Davies all moving on to new challenges.

But ten new faces have also been brought in to bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign.

So, what can we expect from Stendel's side this season?

What lessons have been learned since you were last in the second-tier?

"Barnsley have evolved a lot since we were last in the Championship.

"We no longer expect to sell key players in January, we have a coach with a philosophy that leads to winning football, we have a bucket-load of potential in the team and the board have tried to correct all the issues from our previous spell in the second tier

"If our new players forge some solid partnerships and our up-and-coming stars kick on again this year we could be in for some really exciting matchdays."

Who do you think will be your key player this season?

"It's difficult to single out individuals who might be key players, especially with all the new signings coming in, but the midfield pairing of [Alex] Mowatt and [Cameron] McGeehan will be important to us, as will the form of Cauley Woodrow.

"He's really hit the ground running in pre-season and I can see him getting 20 goals this year.

"Of the new signings, I think Mallik Wilks and Luke Thomas could both be influential in our continued progress and, based on his impressive debut in the friendly against Arminia Bielefeld, Conor Chaplin could be a shrewd acquisition."

Where could it all go wrong for the Tykes?

"The obvious danger for us is the fact our defence from last season has been ripped apart.

"We are relying on four new centre-backs to become an obvious duo very quickly and I'm not sure that we know what the best pairing is before our first match.

"I'm confident it will come good over time but we could potentially to be on the end of some heavy defeats early doors, especially when our first game is against Fulham."

What would be a successful season for Barnsley?

"Barnsley's success this year will ultimately depend on us retaining our Championship status but also in improving together as a team.

"The bookies have us as favourites to go straight back down but I am quietly confident we will be safe relatively early in the campaign and, with a good run towards the end of the season, could even be outsiders for a play-off spot.

"But anywhere in the top half would be fantastic.

"There have been several teams flirting with relegation from the Championship for a few seasons now and I would expect us to finish above the likes of Millwall, Reading, QPR and Birmingham, as well as both Luton and Charlton."
