Birmingham City are on the verge of signing former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song from Rubin Kazan, according to Sportsmail.

The 29-year-old Cameroonian international has flown to the West Midlands from Russia to finalise a deal, with an announcement expected in the coming hours.

Song enjoyed a solid six-year spell in the Premier League with Arsenal, before securing a £15 million switch to Barcelona in 2012.

Two loan spells with West Ham saw the end of his career with the Catalan club, and the player moved on to Russian side Kazan last year.

The player is very talented, with a wealth of experience at the highest level of football, and Harry Redknapp’s vision to bring the midfielder to the club must be applauded.

Song has the ability to play at a higher level than the English second tier, and the fact that Birmingham are close to bringing the player to St Andrews marks a real coup for not only the club, but for the league itself.

Birmingham fans have been reacting to news of Song’s imminent arrival, with football fans in disbelief that a deal is close to completion…
