Out on loan Norwich City man dealt significant setback

MK Dons’ on loan Norwich City midfielder Louis Thompson is facing several months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, manager Russell Martin has revealed.

Thompson re-joined the Dons on a season-long loan back in the summer transfer window, having spent the second-half of the 2019/20 campaign with the League One club.

The midfielder has made nine appearances in all competitions for Martin’s side, but was forced off late on in the club’s 2-1 win at Sunderland on Saturday with an apparent hamstring injury, and it now seems as though that has left the 25-year-old facing a long spell on the sidelines.

Providing an update on the injury suffered by Thompson, Martin told The Milton Keynes Citizen: “It was disappointing to lose Louis for a while now.

“It’s what we feared. Hopefully, we’ll find out a bit more at the end of the week when he sees a specialist to find out a timescale.”

Discussing exactly how long it could be before Thompson is back in action, Martin went on to add: “We hope to have him back before the end of the season, he’s not completely ruled out.

“But I don’t think it’s this side of Christmas, maybe January or February so he can play a part in the end of the season.”

As things stand, the Dons are currently 14th in the League One table, with 13 points from their 12 league games so far this season.

Did these 17 players ever score a league goal for Norwich?

Kyle Lafferty?

The Verdict
You do have to feel rather sorry for Thompson here.
With opportunities having never really been forthcoming at Norwich, this was another chance for him to enjoy some regular first-team football, and prove a point to those watching his progress from Carrow Road.
That however, is not something that he is going to be able to do for some time now, and depending on how MK Dons fare without him over the next few weeks, there may be some concern for him about whether or not he will be able to get back into the side once he eventually does make his return to full fitness.
