‘Out of his depth’ – Plenty of Sunderland fans react to player’s showing in defeat v Shrewsbury Town

Sunderland were left frustrated on Tuesday evening, as they were beaten 2-1 by Shrewsbury Town at New Meadow.
Lee Johnson’s side took the lead on the night through Aiden O’Brien, who opened the scoring after 21 minutes to give the visitors the ideal start on the night.
But Ethan Ebanks-Landell equalised for Shrewsbury just seven minutes into the second-half. Salop then found a winner after 67 minutes, as Harrison Chapman found the back of the Sunderland net.
The Black Cats were unable to find an equaliser, which meant that they missed out on a good opportunity to close-in on their play-off chasing rivals.
Did these former Sunderland players leave for a higher or lower fee than what they arrived for?
Sunderland are currently sat seventh in the League One table, but are winless in their last three league matches, which doesn’t make for the best of reading.
On-loan Southampton full-back Jake Vokins played in 75 minutes of the defeat to Shrewsbury, and struggled to make a notable impact in the game.
The 20-year-old won just two of his six aerial duels, and lost possession 11 times during the match, as Sunderland dropped vital points in the race for a top-six finish this term. (Statistics sourced from Sofascore)
Plenty of Sunderland supporters took to social media to voice their frustrations over Vokins’ performance on the night.
Take a look at the best of the reaction from Twitter below….
Needs some top coaching now to stop this loan being an utter disaster for the lad

He’s horrific. No wonder @SouthamptonFC didn’t want him as back up.

#safc Who scouted Vokins ?? the lad is hapless. Even out of his depth in league 1.

Don’t like picking one person out but vokins wasn’t great tonight, constantly out of position and out of position for the second goal🤦♂️#safc

Really really poor 2nd half. Vokins and Matthews shockingly bad. Why we didn’t go for a keeper in jan is beyond me.
Not good enough at all. #safc— Dan Coates (@Dancoat1982) February 9, 2021
