Sunderland boss, Jack Ross will be sweating over the fitness of Deadline Day signing, Will Grigg who seems to be struggling for fitness ahead of a crucial period of the season.

Ross revealed in a recent press conference, that Grigg is hardly training at all, which will make hugely concerning reading for Sunderland supporters.

With nine games remaining of their season, supporters will have hoped that Grigg could spearhead their charge to promotion back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

But news of his injury problem could be a blessing in disguise for an out-of-favour striker who could feel as though this is his last chance at staking a claim for a regular starting spot in Ross' squad.

Charlie Wyke is considerably far down the pecking order in Jack Ross' team this season, but could be called upon by the Sunderland boss if Grigg is to be ruled out of action.

Wyke has been restricted to just six starts this season and has every right to feel frustrated at his lack of game time in this year's campaign.

He would get into the majority of League One teams this season, but Sunderland do have a number of strong options available to them to help aid their promotion challenge this season.

The 26-year-old has scored consistently at League Two level in the past and has shown promising signs in League One, which prompted Sunderland to make their move for him in the summer.

Wyke will be feeling as though this is his final opportunity to prove to Jack Ross, exactly what he can offer this Sunderland team in their promotion bid.

If he can't do that, and Sunderland are to win promotion, then he'll be fearing for his future at the club, and with good reason.

It's likely that we could see wholesale changes in Ross' side, and Wyke could be one of the first names heading for the exit door if their promotion is confirmed.
