Marcus Antonsson has told Swedish media outlet, Fotballdirekt, he won’t be returning to Sweden this summer and that he is not ready to leave Leeds United yet, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Garry Monk brought Antonsson to Elland Road last summer, with the 26-year old enjoyed a successful first two months with Leeds and featuring regularly.

However, a combination of Chris Wood’s goalscoring form in the Sky Bet Championship and Monk’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation, have limited Antonsson’s opportunities at Elland Road.

The striker’s future has been speculated recently, with a number of reports linking the striker with a move back to his native, but Antonsson has quashed those rumours, insisting he is focused on developing with Leeds, he said:

“It’s flattering when a top (Swedish) club wants you.

“I’ve grown up with the Allsvenskan and I love the division so yes, it’s flattering but my focus is still at Leeds. I know I’m far from being done abroad.

“My condition is much better now that I’ve got this season behind me.

“I feel like I’ve developed and right now I don’t feel ready to take a step back.”

Antonsson has not featured for Leeds since their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Sutton United in the FA cup, and only managed 21 appearances all season, with most of those coming as a substitute.

The 26-year old found the net on three occasions for the Whites, with two of those coming in the EFL Cup and just one in the Championship.
