Charlie Adam is in somewhat of a quandary at Stoke City currently.

The midfielder was frozen out of the team under Gary Rowett but has seen a return to the first team be afforded to him under his replacement, Nathan Jones.

Adam put in a man of the match performance in the win over Leeds United back in January, and despite missing four games through injury, came back in to start the following three games.

His renaissance at the bet365 Stadium has been outstanding and is repaying the manager’s faith after being a part of the squad to be relegated last term.

The Stoke Sentinel has reported that Adam is still waiting on concrete indication either way about his future at the club. And, there is no guarantee that the 33-year-old would sign a new deal if offered one, according to sources close to the midfielder, via the Sentinel, leaving a stalemate between the player and the club.

Jones wants the average age of the side to come down ahead of next season, and that could mean several senior exits at the club.

This leaves Adam in some sort of purgatory at present, and one that will end one way if things persist.

Yes, he is back in the team but being unsure of his future at the club, he will air on the side of leaving in the summer.

Despite the resurgence this term, that is this season, and through the summer, Jones could add players to replace him, so the midfielder needs to have that on his mind.

The sensible thing to do, from his perspective, would be the leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.

Game time had been hard to come before the arrival of Jones, and if he wants to continue to play at his age, a move away would be the best bet.

Adam may be reluctant to leave having been at Stoke since 2012, but if a contract is not offered, he will have no choice.

It is vital for the 33-year-old to know where his future lies so that he can start to plan for the new season.

The later he leaves it, the harder it may be to find a new club ahead of the new season.

Adam being in the dark will frustrate him, and that could be the reason for his reluctance to sign any new deal that may be offered to him.

He will want to know sooner or later if he has the chance of continuing his Stoke career or moving on to pastures new.
