Wayne Rooney has gone some way to solving some of his defensive problems with the addition of youngster Teden Mengi from Manchester United.

The Rams are already without captain Curtis Davies, who sustained a long-term achilles problem against Stoke City in December, whilst Krystian Bielik suffered a knee problem against Bristol City on Saturday, although the former Arsenal man has been playing in the centre of midfield.

But Rooney has made his first signing since becoming Derby's permanent manager - with the teenager moving to Pride Park for the remainder of the campaign.

Mengi has featured heavily for Manchester United Under-23s in the EFL Trophy in the previous two seasons, but his only taste of senior action at Old Trafford came during the knockout stages of the Europa League as a late substitute against LASK post-lockdown.

The 18-year-old has been on the bench a handful of times for the Red Devils this term, but with United boasting a number of experienced defenders, he's joined up with Rooney's team in order to continue his development over the coming months.
