Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has taken to Twitter to say how delighted he was to make his debut for the Blades on Saturday afternoon, despite their 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town.

With Aaron Ramsdale leaving to join Arsenal for a £24m fee last week, Foderingham and Michael Verrips are currently the two options manager Slavisa Jokanovic has available to him as things stand, potentially giving the former an unexpected opportunity to shine at Bramall Lane.

24-year-old Verrips had a nightmare between the sticks on Wednesday night against West Bromwich Albion in their 4-0 defeat - and Foderingham was brought in on Saturday afternoon to stake his claim to be the club's new number one goalkeeper.

The Sheffield United manager has said both their existing senior goalkeepers will get a chance to prove their point, with Verrips in line in their Carabao Cup tie against Derby County in midweek before Foderingham returns to Championship action on Saturday afternoon against Luton Town.

QPR shot-stopper Seny Dieng and Sweden international Robin Olsen have both been linked with moves to Bramall Lane in recent weeks as potential replacements for Aaron Ramsdale, but considering their luck in the transfer market so far, it wouldn't be an impossibility to see a goalkeeper not come in despite the funds they now have at their disposal.

One man who could be secretly hoping to see no shot-stopper come in before the end of the month is 30-year-old Foderingham, who posted on Twitter last night: "Delighted to make my league debut for the club yesterday. Despite the disappointing result, it was great to be out there. Onwards & upwards!"
