Mick McCarthy guided Ipswich Town back to winning ways last night in the Sky Bet Championship, with his side beating Barnsley to end a six-match winless run.

Jonas Knudsen scored the only goal of the game for McCarthy’s side, who were 1-0 winners at Portman Road.

Surprisingly, after the contest, confirmation came from Ipswich that they and McCarthy would be going their separate ways immediately, four games earlier than originally planned.

McCarthy was set to leave Portman Road at the end of the season, but the 59-year-old has cited that he wasn’t enjoying the post following the announcement he would be leaving in the summer.

Ipswich moved to confirm that news last night, ending McCarthy’s long spell in-charge at Portman Road, which began back in 2012.
