Nottingham Forest have entered a legal battle with former owner Fawaz Al Hasawi over money they believed to be unpaid following the sale of the club last year, according to The Nottingham Post.

The Kuwaiti has in turn launched proceedings of his own against the Midlands-based side, claiming that it is he in fact who is owed money after selling the club to current owner Evangelos Marinakis in May 2017.

The club had hoped to keep the matter private, but representatives Browne Jacobson LLP confirmed that proceedings had been launched against the Kuwaiti in a statement.

Al Hasawi took over the club in 2012 with the intention of guiding the Reds to the Premier League, but a period of overspending led to the breaking of Financial Fair Play restrictions, and a subsequent transfer embargo.
