Barnsley have announced their new manager ahead of their upcoming campaign in League One.

German boss Daniel Stendel has been brought in on a two-year deal at Barnsley.

He succeeds Jose Morais as Barnsley manager after they were relegated from the Championship on the final day of the season and they will spend the 2018/19 season back in League One.

Paul Heckingbottom started last season in charge but left to join Leeds United, although he has since been sacked by the Whites after a disappointing mid-table finish.

Stendel joins Barnsley with his only previous managerial experience coming at Hannover 96 in the German Bundesliga, where he had a win ratio of around 54 per cent.

However, the 44-year-old spent less than a year in the role and has not been employed since March 2017.

Barnsley fans took to Twitter to discuss their new manager, with the majority feeling confident that he is the right man for the job.
