Preston North End have been on the hunt for more striking targets this summer, with the club having only four players in the position after Cameron Archer left at the end of his deal.

Right now, the Lilywhites have Emil Riis, Troy Parrott, Ched Evans and Sean Maguire currently at Deepdale who can play in the forward role. The side have been reliant on Riis for their goals, with the Dane scoring a double-digit amount during the last campaign, with Parrott coming into the side to try and take the burden off his new strike partner.

Apart from the two youngsters though, there are not many forward options for PNE to choose. Maguire can be useful but struggles scoring and is currently sidelined with an injury and Evans is also unable to hit the back of the net frequently.

Even though the former Fleetwood man managed just two goals in 23 league games last season though, he is now wanted by Wigan according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon. It means that PNE could end up selling Evans and having just three strikers in their squad.

However, despite manager Ryan Lowe since claiming to LancsLive that Evans is not available for a transfer, perhaps Preston should consider a transfer and letting the player join Wigan.

That's because the club need striking options that can guarantee goals if they want to think about a promotion push. Both Riis and Parrott at Preston will likely be able to score a few goals this season but Evans has just seven in 45 league games for the club during his career. Lowe has said that he wants Championship-level players, with experience of the second tier and Evans doesn't fit that.

Evans is a player that is experienced in the second tier but only has 30 goals in 149 games during that time. Even though it's not a bad return, the player still has an average of just 0.29 goals per 90. Last season, it was even worse, with an average of just 0.13. Even Daniel Johnson, an attacking midfielder, had a better record than that.

Whilst Ched Evans is experienced then, he isn't what they need in terms of a goalscorer. If they could sell him on to Wigan and free up transfer funds, they could then use the money to bring in someone who fits into the system better and can score goals more regularly. PNE do need striking options and striking depth, so selling a forward seems like a bad move but if you could sell Evans to sign a player who could come in and bag ten goals, then it would be an instant upgrade on the former Fleetwood man.

It's worth a deal then to allow North End boss Ryan Lowe to bring in someone he wants who can get more goals - so if Wigan do make a transfer bid for the 33-year-old, then PNE should consider it this window.
