Championship outfit Huddersfield Town are in advanced talks to recruit Solihull Moors striker Kyle Hudlin ahead of his contract expiring at the National League club in the summer, according to a report from Football Insider.

The 21-year-old took his current side to the play-off final and even scored at Wembley, but lost out 2-1 to Grimsby Town in the end as the Mariners secured their return to the EFL, much to the forward's displeasure.

Hudlin looks destined to take the step up regardless though, even if he doesn't arrive at the John Smith's Stadium with the 6'9 forward even being linked with a move to Premier League champions Manchester City last summer.

His height is a real selling point for sides across the EFL and particularly for Carlos Corberan's side, with Sorba Thomas' set pieces and the non-league striker's aerial threat potentially proving to be a deadly combination in the coming years.

Wales international Thomas was plying his trade in the fifth tier just 18 months ago and with the 23-year-old proving to be a real success, standing out as one of the West Yorkshire outfit's better players in the play-off final as a real threat out wide, it's no surprise they want to take another non-league punt.

Solihull may be due compensation if he does seal this move - but he's unlikely to cost a huge fee and may even be willing to accept a reasonably modest wage considering he's coming from the lower leagues, so it's a punt worth taking.

Even if this move doesn't work out for the best, this isn't the type of deal that will severely affect their ability to get more transfers over the line and with Dean Hoyle set to take full control of the club again, they will have the off-field stability to take a very small financial gamble like this.

Looking at their forwards last season, Jordan Rhodes and Josh Koroma scored just nine goals in all competitions combined, potentially a factor that cost them automatic promotion.

Perhaps that's unfair considering both admirably contributed to the cause - but others including wing-back Harry Toffolo and central defender Tom Lees were able to be just as prolific during the 2021/22 campaign. And with the Terriers conceding just 47 goals in 46 league games during 2021/22, it's clear their focus should be on levelling up their attack.

Hudlin may not be guaranteed to score goals in the second tier considering he needs to take three steps up the English football pyramid - but with his aerial threat and Thomas' set-pieces - he would be a good impact player to come off the bench.

And with his arrival unlikely to affect their ability to bring others in as previously mentioned, they should be looking to wrap up a deal for his services as quickly as possible to prevent the possibility of losing him to a rival.
