This season's surprise package, Huddersfield Town, had taken the league by storm over the first two months, and having beaten Ipswich at the very beginning of October, their scintillating form, winning 8 of their first 11 game, had catapulted them to the top of the pile.

It left many wondering whether they could emulate the achievements of Bournemouth in the 2014/15 season, an unexpected club rising rapidly.

Whilst it would be an exaggeration to say that the wheels have completely fallen off the Terriers' train, their form since that victory at Portman Road has been certainly not that of promotion standard.

They have picked up just 4 points in the last 6 games, a stark contrast to the opening 11, in which they racked up a sensational 25.

So what just has gone wrong for David Wagner's charges?

Well, for one, their defence seems to have crumbled in recent weeks.

After that win at Ipswich, the Terriers had conceded a miserly 8 goals, but since have let in a startling 13.

Part of this can be put down to no shows on away days, such as the recent 5-0 mauling at Fulham, and a 3-1 defeat away to Preston.

These are polar opposite displays to their earlier draw at Villa Park, and victory at Newcastle, and the defence has to take some of the blame for this.

Another possible reason for their sudden loss of form could be a loss of momentum.

Having got off to a good start, going unbeaten in their first 6 league games, they were then able to carry their good form on, due to the feel-good factor around the John Smith's stadium.

However, this seems to have worn off rapidly, thus leading to their poor run of form.

It will be interesting to see how they respond to this slight setback they are suffering, and although they still sit 4th, they will have to get points quickly if they want to maintain this position, starting with a Wigan at home on Monday night.
