West Bromwich Albion head coach Carlos Corberan is reportedly under consideration to become the next manager of Premier League side Leeds United.

According to the Daily Mail, Corberan is emerging as a potential contender to replace Jesse Marsch, who has been sacked after a run of seven league games without a win.

The 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday leaves them 17th in the table and only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

Corberan's appointment would see him return to the club where he spent a spell working as a first-team coach under Marcelo Bielsa, as well as managing their Under-23 side.

The Spaniard's managerial reputation is growing after the excellent job he did at Huddersfield Town where he lead the Terriers to the Championship play-off final and the outstanding impact he has made since his arrival at The Hawthorns in October.

Corberan replaced Steve Bruce with the Baggies sitting in the relegation zone, but he has won 11 and drawn one of his 14 games in charge in all competitions and they are now sixth in the table.

His work has not gone unnoticed and he was reportedly the subject of interest from Everton before they opted to appoint Sean Dyche.

It is understandably why Leeds are admirers of Corberan and he would be the perfect replacement for Marsch.

Perhaps Corberan's main quality as a manager is his ability to get his teams well organised. Huddersfield were known for their solidity and resilience under his guidance and it has been no different with the Baggies, who have kept seven clean sheets in 13 league outings since he took over.

Defensive issues have plagued Leeds in recent years, with their inability to stop conceding goals one of the main factors behind Bielsa's departure and Marsch was unable to tighten them up, so Corberan's skills in that department could prove to be invaluable.

Corberan is already highly regarded by Leeds fans after stint at the club and he was praised by Bielsa, who described him as a "good collegue" and "very talented" in 2018.

With Bielsa still retaining legendary status at the club, that will be considered as a significant endorsement of Corberan's abilities and one that would likely buy him time with the supporters.

Corberan would be able to unite a fan base that has been divided under Marsch and creating that togetherness could be crucial to their survival prospects, particularly with the intimidating atmosphere than can be created at Elland Road.

He is also no stranger to a relegation battle, having kept Huddersfield in the Championship during the 2020-21 season and inheriting the Baggies in the bottom three, so that experience could make him well equipped to deal with the Whites' current predicament.

It should also be remembered that Corberan is only 39 years old, so he has plenty of room for further development as a manager and he would represent a smart long-term appointment who could take Leeds forward for years to come.

Corberan should think very carefully about leaving West Brom as there is a realistic possibility the two clubs should be swapping places next season, but he has shown all the qualities that suggest he is capable of making the step up to the top flight and he would be an excellent replacement for Marsch.
