With Reading evidently struggling in the Championship this season, there has been many questions as to whether Paul Clement is the man to steer Reading clear of their relegation troubles.

With his side sat 21st in the league table, it's been a bitterly disappointing season so far for Reading fans, many of whom would have hoped they would turn the poor form shown last season, around in this campaign.

There have been many people at fault for the club's downward spiral and I'm going to take us through those individuals responsible.

The players:

All of the managers that have inherited this under-performing squad have all struggled to fix the issues within the team.

But with positive results not being produced by this Reading team, the players must take a large portion of the blame for the poor season so far.

The likes of Sone Aluko, Chris Gunter and Paul McShane have all struggled this season but whilst they continue to be picked on a regular basis, they need to justify their place in the starting XI.

The manager:

Clement only has a win percentage of 23%, which is a statistic that speaks volumes.

Some fans will argue that he can only do a certain amount with the under-performing squad that he currently has, but a manager has to make a mark on a squad when they are appointed.

In my eyes, Clement would be an excellent coach to have alongside a manager, but his managerial ability is rightly being questioned after a poor showing by the Royals this season- and it seems to be the same mistakes being made by his side.

Ron Gourlay:

The Reading Chief Executive was appointed by the club in July 2017 and it's fair to say that it has gone downhill ever since his appointment.

Gourlay should be held accountable for the off-the-field issues at the club with a number of staff leaving the club, seemingly unhappy with the way the club is run which will be deeply concerning news for Royals fans.

In my opinion, the sooner Gourlay is out of the club, the better.

Reading were once known as a 'family club' and I completely agree with that, but the soul of this club has been torn apart in recent years and fans will be hoping for a solution to both their on-field and off-field problems ASAP with relegation a real possibility for the Royals this season.
