With Cardiff City looking short of strikers at the moment and discovering that they are set to lose Kenwyne Jones in January, Russell Slade must set his sights in delving into the January Transfer Window for a prolific striker.
The club still look a long way off achieving their target of a play-off place with many of the other teams like Burnley, Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich looking to make the cut instead of the Bluebirds.
The Welsh side have had problems this season with their attacking options, they went through a goal drought phase back in October and ironically, Kenwyne Jones ended that record with a goal against Reading FC at the beginning of November.
The club went five games without a goal and many of the fans were slowly becoming concerned with the lack of attacking threat from the Welsh side.
The forwards have been underwhelming this season with them scoring only 13 goals altogether this season.
Joe Mason bagged a goal against Blackburn at the weekend to make it his 6th goal of the season, but I don’t see him being a prolific scorer at Championship level and he will need support.
Federico Macheda has been laid off with a long injury, and is slowly being introduced back into the team from the bench. However you question whether it is a little too late in the season for him to make a real impact for the team, as he looks to regain his fitness.
Idriss Saadi looks a real prospect for the future, but cannot expect to be starting week in- week out at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Kenwyne Jones has netted five goals this season, but his body language is a real frustrating aspect to his style of play and he has fallen out of favour with the Bluebirds fans.
Tony Watt has looked like a bright spark since his loan deal from Charlton last month, he has scored two goals for the club and has impressed Russell Slade. A deal is set to be on the cards for the former Celtic man.
The Welsh side’s weak points are certainly up front and Cardiff will need to sign somebody who is going to inject some attacking excitement back into the club.
Here’s some realistic targets that Russell Slade should consider..
The Huddersfield hitman would be a perfect option at the Welsh capital. He has shown that he can compete at Championship level after netting eight goals for the Yorkshire side this season.
He was the Terrier’s record signing two years ago from a £1.5 million buy from Bradford City. The 25 year old’s goal could be the difference whether Cardiff make a late push for the play-offs.
He is someone I have admired for the last few years after watching him cause Premier League side problems back in his Bradford City’s FA Cup ties. Cardiff have been known to splash the cash on players and a sufficient bid would lure him away from Huddersfield.
The 26-year-old striker has found opportunities at Selhurst Park hard to come by this season after only making 10 appearances.
He is a very energetic, quick forward that Cardiff really need.
Gayle made a break in his career while he was at Peterborough United in the Championship, which led to Crystal Palace signing him for £4.5 million.
Many other Championship clubs have been rumoured to be considering a offer for the Bermudian international and Cardiff should certainly consider the talented Premier League striker.
The Scunthorpe United striker Patrick Madden is another man that has been on top of his game so far in League One with 11 goals already.
The 25-year-old is certainly on course to improve on the season he had previously netting 14 goals.
The Irishman has certainly shown that he is a capable striker in League One, but at the peak of his career, Russell Slade should potentially offer Madden the chance to prove himself in the Championship.
