Sheffield Wednesday are no doubt determined to try and get back into the Championship at the first time of asking this season and they're still identifying targets to try and sign this month before the window closes.

One name that has been linked with the side over the last few days is that of Jordan Storey, with the Preston man a loan target for the Owls as reported by Yorkshire Live.

The defender could certainly help shore up the club's backline for the remainder of the season and if a deal can be struck between the two sides, then it could be a shrewd move by the League One outfit.

If he does end up making the move to Hillsborough, then what could he offer to the side then?

For starters, Jordan Storey is fairly adept with the ball at his feet. He had to step in for PNE when they sold Ben Davies and they were some big shoes to fill. While he hasn't been arguably as impressive as his former teammate, he still did a decent job in getting the ball out and helping start attacks.

The player is also strong in the air and while he hasn't been able to contribute much in terms of goals from set-pieces at the other end of the field, he most definitely can win a header if needed at the back.

One important thing to note about Storey too is his ability to produce a moment of magic at the back.

While his consistency isn't great - he can often put in a Man of the Match display but then be extremely quiet a week later - he has proven his mettle in a backline with some vital tackles and blocks for Preston. In Lilywhite colours, he has managed to put in plenty of last-ditch tackles and blocks that have kept his side in the game and he could do that at Sheffield Wednesday too.

Storey's best strengths arguably come in his defensive duties. While he might not offer the same kind of ability in launching a ball forward to start an attack as others and he isn't much of a goal threat at the other end, he is more than capable of holding firm at the back and doing the gritty work. He's done a decent job at Preston when he has had to start and deputise for others, so a drop down to League One should help him flourish even more.

He certainly wouldn't be a bad signing for the Owls by any means - and it could do the player a favour too, with Storey currently not a starting centre-back at Deepdale. Given regular gametime a division lower, he could thrive.
