Wigan appointed Warren Joyce as their new boss on Wednesday night after the departure of Gary Caldwell last week.

Joyce left his previous role as Manchester United under-21 coach to pursue a career in first team management, something he has already had a little go at with Hull City.

He will take over a side who are currently struggling and are in the bottom three, maybe not the ideal first job for Joyce but he has accepted the challenge offered to him by Latics chairman, David Sharpe.

With little, to no, first team managerial experience, Joyce takes over a tough task to keep Wigan in the league and he will have to rely on every grain of experience possible from his time at Manchester United, and working around some top managers.

The main reason why I believe Joyce is a bad appointment for Wigan, is his lack of experience.

In a tough situation, will he have what it takes to pull Wigan through a game and get them a crucial three points? I don't think he will.

When it comes to big games towards the end of the season, Joyce has no proper experience of what to do in them situations and how to handle the players, so he will be learning on the job.

It seems quite a similar appointment to the manager Wigan have just sacked, Gary Caldwell.

Joyce will bring a style of football similar to Caldwell's, a possession based game and a team filled with attacking players, but Wigan probably don't have the right personnel to play that style of play.

When it comes to a relegation battle, the best managers to have are the one's who have been there and done it before, Joyce hasn't.

This is why I believe Wigan should've gone for someone with a more experience, like Steve Evans.

Evans kept Rotherham in the league two years ago, whilst turning Leeds' fortunes around last season and he could count himself unlucky not to have been given the Leeds job on a permanent basis.

However, there is potential for Joyce to succeed at Wigan, if he can make them more 'streetwise' and resilient to pick up results, then he could be successful.

Most of Wigan's defeats are by a single goal so if he can get them scoring goals again, then he could be a success.
