This morning, the annual PFA Team of the Year’s were announced for England’s top four divisions.
Year on year, there are always surprise omissions and the 2016/17 team offers a few surprises of its own.
Most notably, Bristol City striker Tammy Abraham is absent from the team with his 22 league goals not being good enough to warrant a place in the division’s best eleven.
Don’t get me wrong, there are certainly arguments for the inclusions of both strikers chosen but the overall impact of Abraham in my opinion has been far superior to Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle.
Yes Gayle has had a big say on Newcastle’s push for promotion but if he wasn’t at the club, I fully believe that other players like Mitrovic and Murphy would have stepped up to the plate.
Whereas 19-year-old Abraham has shone in a season where his side have struggled near the bottom for the majority of the campaign and if they are to stay up, they will certainly owe an awful lot to the Chelsea loanee.
Without Abraham in the side, the likelihood is that the Robins would be in a far worse position as we approach the final games of the season.
Bristol City fans… Do you agree that your striker deserved a place in the team? Just how important has he been to your side this season? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!
