In Forest's shambolic season there were some glimmering signs of what can happen when a team play well.

Performances from Oliver Burke, Henri Lansbury, Chris Cohen, Dani Pinillos, and a few others show promising foundations of a squad capable building for next season.

Despite these capable performances there were two players who really were the unsung heroes of the season for me....

Nelson Oliveira

It has been said that to settle into the Championship is no easy task. Oliveira settled in very well.

If you took away all of his goals this season , we would be 14 points worse off which would put us 1 point off the relegation zone on 41 points with Charlton finishing on 40 points.

This shows you how vital he was.

He missed the last few months of the season and it was his first season in the Championship.

We have seen many come to the City Ground and fail to settle, Rafik Djebbour, Lars Veldwijk - the list goes on season after season.

However this man managed to score when we as a team sometimes was playing awfully.

He lifted our spirit and injected some extra class into Forest which we have been missing since Assombalonga got injured.

I am not going to go and say he is a "must have signing" but the contribution Oliveira gave to Forest was immense.

On that matter if we did secure his services this summer I would be a happy man.

David Vaughan

David Vaughan has played very well this season, very well indeed.

He gave passion and gut into Forest when no one else did, when no one else even seemed to care.

He was a midfield general and he formed a formidable partnership with Henri Lansbury.

The only problem was they never seemed to both be fit at the same time. Either one was suspended or the other was injured and this really hampered Forest during the season.

Nevertheless he was still a battler, an old fashioned footballer who never gives up and goes into tackles hard and strong. When I watched David Vaughan play I could see the hunger and desire in his eyes that I just couldn't see in many of the other players.

He may be getting to the end of his career soon but David Vaughan is one of the most unsung heroes of this season for sure.
