With a third of the season gone already, we have already seen some fantastic action in the Sky Bet Championship with teams battling for promotion to the Premier League.

As expected, Newcastle United have flown out of the blocks and are looking extremely likely to go and clinch promotion at the first time of asking whilst other teams have surprised such as Huddersfield Town and Reading, who both sit in the play-off positions.

In the 16 games played this season, there has already been some exceptional performances by some players and this is why they fully deserve to be picked in Football League World's Championship team of the season so far.

So here, FLW's Harry Webster selects his Championship team of the season so far.....

GK- Ali Al-Habsi

al-habsid

The former Wigan Athletic stopper has been in superb form so far for the Royals this season.

Under Jaap Stam, Reading have looked very impressive playing a passing brand of football whilst looking extremely solid in defence.

Much of this defensive solidarity has been down to Al Habsi, keeping the second highest amount of clean sheets with seven.

The 34-year-old 'keeper has pulled off some stunning saves this season and if he continues this form then who knows where the Royals can finish this season.

RB - Bruno Saltor

The experienced full back is one of the most consistent players in the Championship.

Bruno is key to Chris Hughton's side and his ability to get forward and join in on the attack as well as his defensive solidarity is a huge reason as to why Brighton have played so well this season.

The Seagulls have only conceded nine goals in 16 games and much of this has been down to Bruno and the rest of the Brighton back four.

CB - Pontus Jansson

Jansson has already caught the eye this season with some superb performances for Leeds United.

After only 16 games, there has already been speculation about the defender with many Premier League sides reportedly monitoring his progress at Elland Road.

Much of Leeds' successes this season will be down to the defensive solidarity of Jansson with the 25-year-old forming a very strong partnership with Kyle Bartley.

CB - Jamaal Lascelles

lascelles

After being made club captain at the start of the season it shows how much Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez rates the former Nottingham Forest man.

Lascelles has impressed in the heart of the Toon defence and despite a few mistakes in the opening weeks, he has been excellent.

His ability in the air as well as his physicality has impressed many this season and I fully expect him to go on and lead Newcastle to Championship glory this season.

LB - Scott Malone

In his first season at Fulham after making the move from Cardiff City in the summer, Scott Malone has been outstanding.

Last season Fulham's defence was comfortably one of the worst in the Championship but this season it has been much better, and much of this is down to the solidarity of Malone and the rest of the back four.

Like Bruno in the other full back position, Malone's ability to join in on the attack and swing in crosses has been vital for the Cottagers this season.

RM - Garath McCleary

It is still surprising that a Premier League team has not come in for McCleary who continues to impress every season.

The Jamaican international is vital to the Royals with his pace, skill, finishing and crossing.

He continues to terrorise full backs in every game he plays and a player of his quality is certainly capable of taking Jaap Stam's side to the next level this season.

If he maintains this form, Reading could be there or thereabouts this season.

CM - Aaron Mooy

aaron-mooyaaron-mooy

On loan from Manchester City, Mooy is demonstrating his quality this season to everyone.

Huddersfield Town have been the surprise package this season and much of this is down to the Australian midfielder.

Mooy's passing range, finishing from long range and work rate in the centre of midfield is helping the Terriers win games this season.

If he carries on this form he must be close to a chance to prove himself in the Manchester City first team when he returns.

CM - Jonjo Shelvey

Many experts are labelling Shelvey as the player of the season so far and it is hard to disagree.

His passing range and finishing from long distance has been crucial to Rafael Benitez's side and he is certainly proving that he is Premier League quality.

LM - Anthony Knockaert

Like Shelvey, Knockaert has been one of the stand-out performers in the Sky Bet Championship so far this season.

The winger's trickery, finishing and crossing has caused plenty of teams problems this season.

Chris Hughton is hugely reliant on the former Leicester City midfielder and rightly so.

Much of Brighton's successes will be down to Knockaert as well as other key players such as Glenn Murray.

ST - Tammy Abraham

With nine goals scored already this season, Tammy Abraham is one the biggest prospects in the English game.

His pace as well as his knack of being at the right place at the right time has been effective for Lee Johnson's Bristol City side this season.

Abraham's goals could fire the Robins to glory this season as they push for promotion to the Premier League.

ST - Dwight Gayle

Dwight GayleDwight GayleDwight Gayle

Whilst Abraham has surprised fans with his performances this season, Gayle has not.

Signed from Crystal Palace in the summer, Gayle is a Premier League player playing in the Championship and his goals has reflected this.

Rafael Benitez splashed the cash on the 26-year-old this summer and with him averaging a goal every 94 minutes, it is proving a worthwhile bit of business.
