Sitting amongst the elite clubs in England, recruitment at Tottenham Hotspur often involves assessing situations overseas and monitoring some of the world's best.

However, EFL recruitment is something that also ranks high on the priority list when it comes to transfer windows, with the likes of Joe Rodon, Dele Alli and Jack Clarke representing more recent examples of Spurs dipping into the Football League market.

Ensuring that eyes are on the EFL market is a sustainable approach to recruitment, with gems often being found with tier's two to four in England.

One player that Spurs have been linked with is Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil, with the 20-year-old possessing an incredibly high ceiling.

The midfielder has been excellent in Sunderland colours this season, appearing 39 times in the league, netting three times and providing a further seven assists.

Proving to have all the technical abilities to justify a Premier League move, he has also combined that with maturity beyond his age and intelligence both when in possession and out of it.

He is also a relentless worker when off the ball and does all he can to ensure that possession is with Sunderland at any given time.

As said before, Neil is an exciting prospect who could definitely cut it at Premier League level in the future, however, there is a massive gap between England's third-tier and an ambitious top-tier outfit like Spurs.

This is why Spurs should look to temporarily offload the exciting midfielder to a Championship destination if they are to secure his services this summer.

The process of finding an appropriate second-tier suitor will be vitally important, as this would bridge the gap between the differing standards.

Ensuring that he is able to see enough game time, whilst also finding a destination where the style of football is appropriate ranks as the two most important factors when deciding upon a Championship club, plus, there has to be interest from the team itself.

A seemingly fast-improving club, who play an excellent brand of football, is Swansea City and the South Wales outfit could be an excellent destination for the young midfielder, whilst Middlesbrough and Sheffield United would represent great alternatives, should they remain in the division.
