On the day after the anniversary of the first ever Academy 11 in English Football history, i'll be giving you run down on some of the players that could join the likes of Vaughan, Ashley Westwood, Nick Powell and Nicky Maynard, that have all played in the Premier League, in the future in doing that achievement

Some of these players are the main reasons why the Under-21 team travel to QPR on Wednesday night to play in the play-off final of the U21 development league and why the Under-18 side travel on Saturday for their equivalent game.

Matt Tootle: The current club vice-captain is the next big player that Crewe fans will expect to move on before too long. The full back, who can play on both sides on defence, has made over 200 first team appearances for the club and cannot ever be accused of lacking commitment. Would love to see him in an Alex shirt for the whole of next season but expect him to be moved on either in the summer or in January at the latest.

Ryan Colclough: A promising wide man who started as a forward for the youth team has shown some trickery when playing in the first team as a left-sided wideman. A major downside to Colclough at the moment is his fitness as he's only played once since the start of October due to a number of injury problems.

Crewe have signed King
Crewe is notorious for its great academy

Billy Waters: The teenage midfielder has made big strides this season as a first year pro who has made 9 appearances for the first team so far including a start in the Alex's 4-2 defeat to Peterborough. A central midfielder naturally, Billy has been playing on the wing for the first team and his energy and quality on the ball has been a positive as we struggle at the foot of the table. His goals for the U21 have been useful as well as he's into double figures for them including several penalties.

James Baillie: The youth team full back, who rejoined the club from Manchester United a couple of years ago, has been instrumental in the Developmental set-up and has earned himself his first pro deal until the end of next season. He's also got an eye for goals including this piece of magic in the FA Youth Cup -

George Cooper: Another player to have impressed from the youth side is George Cooper. The Warrington-born winger started out as a left back but has been pushed into midfield due to the quality that he has going forward with his left foot. His performances have been rewarded with a pro deal until the summer of 2016.

Callum Saunders: The last player i'm going to mention in this column has international potential in his genes as he's the son of former Welsh international Dean Saunders. Callum, like his father, is a striker who knows exactly where the net is and is the reason why the under-18 team managed to advance to the 4th round of the FA Youth Cup (scoring 7 goals in the 4 rounds the Alex played) with him also scoring double figures for the U18s.
