We are now 16 games into the new season and we are finally starting to get an indication of where teams will be finishing come the end of the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship season.

Newcastle are flying high at the top of the league and look a force to be reckoned with while Brighton and Hove Albion are looking good in second.

That pair will fancy their chances of occupying the top two spots come the end of the season but with thirty games still left to go, anything could happen.

We can expect Huddersfield to still be eager to spring an upset; expect Norwich to turn things around and compete; and expect the likes of Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol City and Reading to be scrapping for promotion too.

Dwight Gayle, Tammy Abraham and Glenn Murray are the three clear candidates to take Andre Gray's title as Championship top scorer this season.

But here are two others to consider who might surprise people and finish as top goalscorer in the second tier this season.

Sam Gallagher

Sam Gallagher has been just about the only bright spark for Owen Coyle's underwhelming Blackburn Rovers team.

The 21-year-old, on loan from Southampton, has scored 7 league goals this season in 15 games, trailing Gayle by just 4 goals.

If Coyle (or whoever is in charge in January) can bring in some better players to give the 6'4'' striker some service then even more goals will follow and he could lead Rovers to safety.

Jonathan Kodjia

After a slow start to his Aston Villa career, Jonathan Kodjia is finally starting to get warmed up at B6.

The Ivorian international will be keen to better his tally of 18 Championship goals which he got last season at Bristol City in his debut year in England.

The 26-year-old has six already this term but five have come in his last five games (under Steve Bruce) and he has better service at Aston Villa than he did last year at Ashton Gate.
