Shopping in the Championship market for Premier League clubs is typically an expensive task but, of course, there are several success stories from over the years.

In the second tier at present, there are a number of players who seemingly have the ability to go on and immediately play their football in the higher division.

Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres certainly fits that description, with the 24-year-old enjoying a productive start to the 2022/23 Championship campaign.

The Swedish forward has netted nine times in 19 appearances thus far for the Sky Blues and he sits as the joint-top goalscorer in the division as a result.

However, the young forward is not confined to just his goalscoring abilities, with Gyokeres possessing a number of desirable attributes that make him one of, if not the most attractive prospects in the second tier right now.

A real physical presence, with excellent levels of athleticism and pace, Gyokeres also possesses brilliant technical ability and has proven to cause havoc for defences.

He is also intelligent in his running and pressing, whilst he has formed good working relationships with his teammates in attacking positions.

As Gyokeres continues to impress in England's second tier, he is catching the attention of several clubs in the top flight, with a Football League World exclusive recently revealing that Crystal Palace, Everton, Southampton and West Ham are all fighting to secure the services of the exciting forward.

Whilst he would be a welcomed addition at all four of those clubs, there is perhaps more of a need at Southampton for a striker to arrive this January.

Transfer insider Dean Jones expects the Saints to bring in two more attacking additions when the January transfer window opens its door, with the Saints averaging less than a goal a game in the Premier League thus far this season.

New Saints boss Nathan Jones will be hoping to be backed in January, and Gyokeres is a player that the former Luton Town boss will be aware of.

The Swedish striker scored an excellent goal against the Hatters earlier on in the campaign and troubled the Luton defence all evening.

Of course, a move for Gyokeres does represent a risk, given his lack of game in England's top-flight but he has certainly earned his opportunity.

Southampton should really push to make this deal happen in January, with Gyokeres being a player who can thrive in the here and now, whilst he still possesses an incredibly high ceiling.
