With the January transfer window fast approaching, Lee Johnson will be preparing for a busy month with Bristol City.

The Bristol City boss is keen to add some new faces to his squad as the Robins attempt to make a bid for a play-off place.

The summer business was good by Bristol City with new arrivals Tammy Abraham, Hordur Magnusson and Gary O'Neil fitting in seamlessly already while Callum O'Dowda, Taylor Moore and Josh Brownhill have all shown signs of promise.

The league has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for Bristol City so far with spells of brilliance being shadowed by bad runs of form and they'll be hoping that their recent rut has come to an end after beating Ipswich 2-0 at the weekend.

Bristol City are in 11th place and sit 4 points clear of the play-off zone but there are a host of clubs lining up for those coveted spots so the January window will shape how the season will end.

While Johnson will have his eyes set on a new defender, possibly a creative midfielder and perhaps a goalkeeper, it is clear which position he needs to direct the majority of his focus on.

That is the striker department.

Bristol City lost star man Jonathan Kodjia to Aston Villa, who scored 19 league goals last season for the Robins in his debut season in England.

It was a Championship record transfer fee and that money needs to be reinvested in a top striker, like Jordan Rhodes, Benik Afobe, Scott Hogan or Nahki Wells.

Bristol City struck gold when loanee Tammy Abraham could not stop scoring at the start of the season but he is now subject to being marked out of the game.

Two men stand on Abraham at all times which limits the teenager's ability to influence the game.

Their only other striker option is veteran Aaron Wilbraham, who is a fans' favourite and he can have his moments but his best years are definitely behind him.

If the Robins brought in a top class forward in the upcoming window, there would be less burden on Abraham's shoulders and more goals would inevitably flow.

This is why Bristol City need to sign a striker in January as their priority.
