Opinion: Should Leeds United make a shock move for this ex-striker?

Robbie Keane has now confirmed that he is leaving LA Galaxy, so is this an incentive for them to sign the former Irish international.

Despite now being 36, the LA Galaxy player has vowed to continue his playing career.

This could well mean that Garry Monk may consider purchasing the experienced striker on a short deal.

Despite their position Leeds have struggled for goals, and are still looking for that striker who can get them 15 to 20 goals a season, and Keane is an expert in this department.

Wherever he’s gone he’s scored goals. His most recent stint in England saw him score three in six games on loan at Aston Villa, so he knows where the net is.

He is available and is a realistic target for the Whites who will be looking to push on following seven wins in ten games.

Keane first joined Leeds on loan from Inter Milan in the David O’Leary era, in 2001.

He was sensational during his loan, and scored nine goals in the 18 games he played during his loan.

However, when signed permanently, Keane failed to impress, and scored a lacklustre four goals in 28 appearances before leaving for Tottenham Hotspur in 2002.

After leaving Leeds fourteen years ago he has a proven record, even at the MLS with LA Galaxy.

Keane’s experience could be absolutely essential as they look to built on what has been an impressive start to the season.

Keane’s knowledge of the game could also help the likes of Chris Wood, Kemar Roofe, Marcus Antonsson as well as some of the youth products reach their potential.

Obviously it all comes down to how much Keane wants this move, and his wages.

MLS players tend to be on mega wages, and this might be a reason why this deal maybe wouldn’t be viable.

But where Leeds are in the table could tempt the striker to Elland Road.

There is a massive history at Leeds United, and getting his old side promoted would definitely be worth taking a pay cut for.

What do you think Leeds fans? Is this a viable move for you? Could Robbie Keane help fire you into the destined land of the Premier league?
