With the summer transfer window approaching quickly,  transfer rumours are already beginning to swirl.

Sheffield Wednesday are certainly no exception to this, with the club being linked with several players ahead of a summer in which Darren Moore must once again compose a squad capable of challenging for promotion.

One man linked with the club is Newcastle United starlet Elliot Anderson, and, if the move does happen, Hillsborough might just be the ideal landing spot for the talented young player this summer.

Prolific at youth level

Anderson burst onto the scene in the EFL this season whilst out on loan at Bristol Rovers in the second half of the campaign but prior to that, the teenager had been impressed at youth level for the Magpies.

For Newcastle United's under-23's in the Premier League 2, the 19-year-old scored five goals in seven appearances this campaign.

Across his time with the Magpies' under-18's and under-23's, Anderson netted 18 goals and registered eight assists in 54 youth appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

The attacking-midfielder would carry this on into senior football, netting eight times and contributing with five assists in 21 league appearances as Bristol Rovers won promotion from League Two.

Producing numbers like that has alerted many to Anderson's ability and potential, with Newcastle likely fielding calls from clubs across the EFL.

Logical next step

And yet, it would be a move to Sheffield Wednesday this summer that could make the most sense.

Championship clubs have been linked with Anderson, but having only played half a season in League Two, Newcastle United should perhaps take their time in accelerating the youngster's development.

As such, the next logical step would be a team challenging at the top of League One, and that is where Sheffield Wednesday come in.

The Owls will be challenging at the top of the third tier next campaign, and bringing in somebody like Anderson could freshen up their attack, whilst simultaneously easing the creative burden placed upon Barry Bannan in their midfield.

Not only that, but playing at Hillsborough week in, week out, would prepare Anderson for the pressure of playing in front of the big crowds with expectations - something that the youngster will have to get accustomed to if he is going to be a first team regular at St James' Park in the future.

The ideal landing spot

All things considered, then, you really feel that Anderson could thrive at Sheffield Wednesday next season.

Just as he did at Bristol Rovers, the 19-year-old would be quite capable of contributing towards their promotion efforts, and given it is the third-tier, there is likely to be more patience should he get off on the wrong foot or start slowly.

The last thing Newcastle should want is Anderson being loaned to a Championship club, the 19-year-old not hitting the ground running and then finding himself down the pecking order at said club.

That stagnation would not benefit any party and as such, the third tier, and specifically Sheffield Wednesday, would be an ideal landing spot for Elliot Anderson this summer.
