Sheffield United are in need of adding more quality to their squad ahead of the start of the new Championship campaign having been taking their time so far this summer in the transfer market.

Slavisa Jokanovic has yet to make his first signing since taking over this summer, but the Blades are now being linked with a potential move for Liverpool attacker Harvey Elliott, according to the Sun on Sunday.

That comes with Sheffield United in need of bringing in some extra creativity in the attacking third as they target an immediate return to the Premier League.

Elliott would be an exceptional signing for Sheffield United to make this summer with the 18-year-old having been one of the brightest attacking talents in the Championship last term during his loan spell with Blackburn Rovers.

A tally of seven goals and 11 assists in 41 games was remarkable form for a player of his age and he should only continue to improve with more game time next term.

Liverpool have reportedly been keen for Elliott to secure himself another loan move this summer so that he can continue to develop his game and reach his full potential. That had seen interest emerge from newly-promoted Brentford earlier in the transfer window.

However, with Sheffield United now in the race for his signature, Liverpool should be seriously considering sending him to Bramall Lane.

You could see the 18-year-old getting more chances to display his attacking talents at a side that are likely to be challenging for promotion next term, rather than a side that are going to be fighting against the drop in the top-flight.

If Sheffield United have any doubts about securing a loan move for Elliott this summer then they only need to look at what Jokanovic did with Ryan Sessegnon at Fulham to know that it would likely be a huge success if they secure his services.

Sessegnon had burst onto the scene with some promising performances during the 2016/17 season, but the following year Jokanovic took his game to the next level and gave him the freedom to express himself in the final third. That culminated in him firing home an impressive tally of 16 goals and eight assists in 49 appearances in the 2017/18 campaign.

That saw the attacker manage to claim the Championship’s Player of the Season award despite being very inexperienced at the time. Elliott appears to be just as talented, if not maybe even more so, than Sessegnon and you could therefore see him having just as large an impact on Jokanovic’s latest club.

Sheffield United already have a strong-looking squad heading into the new campaign, but there is need for someone to come in and freshen things up in the attacking third. Elliott would provide that extra attacking spark that is needed to break down stubborn defences and that might make all the difference in tight games for the Blades.

It seems like a no-brainer for Sheffield United to back Jokanovic with this potential signing, and it would be a shock if Liverpool did not view the Blades as an attractive destination for him.

Therefore, the Blades should do all they can to ensure that they manage to bring in the 18-year-old on a loan deal for the campaign and give him the platform to continue his impressive development.
