Opinion: QPR should set sights on Newcastle United starlet this January

QPR will be hoping to use this January transfer window to best equip themselves for the promotion push they are expected to embark on as the season progresses.

The R’s are currently fifth in the second-tier standings and just five points from the automatic promotion spots, with Mark Warburton’s side possessing a game in hand on three of the four sides ahead of them in the table.

One hurdle for the R’s and their promotion objective is the fact that they will be missing Ilias Chair, Seny Dieng and Osman Kakay for much of this month, with the trio all heading to the African Cup of Nations.

Warburton revealed to West London Sport last weekend that he is hoping to bolster the competition in the squad for what remains of the season, citing AFCON 2021 as a key reason as to why they are seeking fresh reinforcements.

Given Chair’s influence from an attacking midfield position, it appears that a midfielder with attacking tendencies could be high on the priority list for the R’s.

A further report from West London Sport that has taken a look into what January might hold for QPR, has said that despite recent links, Warburton’s side are not looking into a deal for Bristol City midfielder Kasey Palmer.

One player who should be on the radar at the West London club this month is Newcastle United starlet Elliot Anderson.

The 19-year-old is highly-rated at the Premier League club and was denied a move to Luton Town in the summer because he was viewed as a player who was on the brink of first-team football under Steve Bruce, as per a report from the Chronicle Live.

The young midfielder has played a starring role when included for the Magpies’ U23s this season, chipping in with five goals and six games.

Chronicle Live have reported that Newcastle are weighing up the options regarding Anderson’s immediate future, stating that several EFL clubs are monitoring his progress at present.

Anderson is a player with an incredibly high ceiling and a big future ahead of him, with QPR being a side that could certainly help develop the exciting midfielder.
