Pompey continued their solid start to the campaign to remain unbeaten in their second season back in Sky Bet Football League One.

Goals from Lowe, Pitman and Clarke helped overturn an early Rochdale lead to leave the Spotland Stadium with all three points on Saturday, putting the South Coast side top of the table.

A year ago, when Portsmouth rejoined the third tier of English football following the club’s triumphant League 2 campaign, Pompey got off to a shaky start picking up four wins in the opening 10 games.

This year, the tides have turned at Fratton Park. Seeing Pompey go unbeaten in their opening 10-games, scoring 20 times and conceding just eight.

Form like this from the South Coast side is what promoted Portsmouth out of League 2, as they closed out the year with seven wins from eight.

Sort out a few defensive errors, which saw Shrewsbury score with their only shot on target in a one all draw, and put away a few more chances, and Portsmouth could go on to solidify their form with a real title push.

A bit more focus on the practice pitches will certainly help Portsmouth put away more chances in front of goal as well as keeping the opposition out. With players often recording shots, but more often not finding the target.

Portsmouth’s push for promotion will certainly feel the benefits, with last year’s play-off qualifiers that remained in the league all struggling for early season form and only Charlton sitting in a top-six position.

It's certainly been a good start, and it seems clear that a League One title win is far from out of the question.
