Luton Town will be growing increasingly confident about what the new Championship campaign might hold, after a play-off finish last time out and a strong start to the summer from a recruitment perspective.

Welcoming seven new faces to the first-team environment, competition levels are seemingly at a very high level at Kenilworth Road.

However, Nathan Jones is still looking to add another defender to his squad, with the departure of Kal Naismith earlier in the window yet to be filled.

Possessing strong defensive options already, with the likes of Reece Burke, Tom Lockyer, Gabe Osho, Dan Potts and Sonny Bradley all impressing as central defenders at Kenilworth Road at some point, one more defender could complete Jones' summer business, from a first-team perspective anyway.

One player that Jones set his sights on is Derby County defender Eiran Cashin, and whilst he has recently signed a new two-year deal at Derby County, the Hatters could look to test their resolve with a bid for the exciting 20-year-old.

Luton have proven to be intelligent when they spend money, and whilst the Rams could demand somewhat of a hefty fee for a young player with an excellent future ahead of him, the potential resale value could make it worthwhile.

The left-footed centre-back, who impressed within the Rams' first team last time out alongside Curtis Davies, proved to be extremely dominant in the air and with his ground duels, putting in an excellent display against the Hatters at Kenilworth Road.

He is also displayed excellent levels of ability and composure whilst in possession, helping to progress play and start attacks from the defensive third.

An exciting defensive prospect, it remains to be seen if the new two-year deal is a stumbling block that is too difficult to overcome, however, he is a player that could be a part of Luton's immediate future and the long-term future too.

If not now, it is likely that interest will start to accumulate in the young defender over the next couple of transfer windows, as he possesses all the necessary attributes to go and enjoy a successful career in the Championship and beyond.
