It remains to be seen how successful or not the Rob Edwards era will be at Luton Town, with the 39-year-old arriving at Kenilworth Road to succeed Nathan Jones.

Tasked with continuing a promotion push in Bedfordshire, the former Watford and Forest Green Rovers manager will be hoping to get off to the best possible start when Luton travel to Middlesbrough a week tomorrow.

Expected to be a tough start to life in the hot seat for Edwards, that fixture will provide somewhat of an indication of how Luton may look to operate under their new boss.

He will also have the January transfer window to address anything he needs to straight away, with the last couple of weeks giving him some time to assess the squad and his options ahead of the opening of the window.

One player currently at Kenilworth Road who could thrive under Edwards' stewardship is Alfie Doughty, with the 22-year-old displaying positive signs under Nathan Jones.

Spending the first part of the campaign out injured, the left wing-back has featured six times in the league for the Hatters, putting in some exciting, confident displays in the process.

Proving to be a real versatile option, Doughty has been tasked with operating as a wing-back, on both wings and as a central midfielder thus far, however, Edwards' arrival could see him tasked with a more regular role.

Whilst Amari'i Bell has been good for the Hatters over the last couple of seasons, Doughty could thrive in a wing-back role under Edwards.

Whilst he was in the hot seat at Forest Green, Nicky Cadden and Kane Wilson were both constant attacking threats and there can be some similarities in the way that the latter operates with Doughty.

Both are direct players with the ball at their feet and both have the pace to cause chaos and it is likely that Edwards will see Doughty as a real weapon.

Jones indicated at the start of the season that Bell could be deployed as a left centre-back, which could be the case with Dan Potts set for a spell on the sidelines.

This would provide Doughty with a good opportunity to regularly feature in the position he was brought into play.
